Kellie's favorite morning smoothie

Talk about fast food! This one is a staple every morning in our home. An easy way to get the day started with loads of nutrients to make you feel like you're ready to tackle just about anything. Greens, berries, orange, banana and flax are the staples with a hint of passion fruit to pretend that we are not in a cold climate. The acidity and taste also mellow out the amounts of greens. This recipe makes enough for two tall glasses.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe or overripe banana fresh or frozen chunks (especially when getting overripe, just freeze your banana in chunks and add to smoothies!)

  • 2 tbsp flax meal

  • 1 orange (skin removed)

  • 1 apple (core removed)

  • 3 -4 cups of greens (spinach or kale)

  • 1 cup frozen berries (blue, black, raspberries or a mix of your favorites)

  • 1/2 cup frozen passion fruit (since we don't get fresh easily and the storage is much easier. It comes frozen in sheets, and you can break of pieces at a time and add it to the smoothie)

  • fill the blender jar with water half way

Method

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender cup, then fill it half way up with water depending on your preference for thickness. You can certainly add some more ice cubes as well if you want it extra cold.

  2. Blend until smooth and serve!

  3. Enjoy!
