5 Minute Marinara Sauce

I do have a lot of multi-step recipes on this site, but this isn't one of them. All you need is a good can of tomatoes, ideally whole peeled (San Manzano or alike), a little garlic (roasted would be best here, but fresh will do in a pinch or even powder), and a few other seasonings and you will have a fantastic dipping sauce or sauce for pizza or pasta, in no time at all without ever turning on the stove. Give this a try for your next pizza night and let me know what you think.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of whole peeled tomatoes (good quality!) or fire roasted

  • 1 - 2 cloves of garlic or 1 tsp of dried garlic powder

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp salt

  • Optional: 1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar

  • Optional: 1 tsp sweetener of choice (1 date, maple syrup, agave syrup, sugar)

Flavor Boosters

  • sub 1/2 head of roasted garlic for fresh or dried.

  • 1/2 cup of fresh basil

  • use any other fresh herbs you like (oregano, majoran, wild garlic, etc.)

Method

  • Add half of the tomatoes and all of the juice to a blender jar and add everything but fresh herbs to the blender.

  • Blend until combined.

  • Add fresh herbs (if using), pulse in but do not over blend!

  • With your hand, squeeze the remaining tomatoes until desired chunkiness is achieved. Add to rest of the sauce and stir.

  • Taste and re-season as necessary.
